The FOSS4G-ASIA conference series aims to bring together FOSS4G users and developers worldwide and foster closer interactions with and amongst Asian communities to share ideas for improving Open-Source Software and applications in the field of Geoinformatics. The focus area of the conference is to foster the development and promote the widespread use of Free & Open-source technologies, Open Data & Standards.
The FOSS4G-ASIA conference series started in 2014 commemorating the Tenth anniversary of the first FOSS4G-related conference that held was held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2004. All work related to the organization of the conference is done by the local organizing committee that is formed by the local hosting institution/organizers. The conference has now become the premier Asian-FOSS4G event. The last conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand in December 2024.
During the organization of the 2014 FOSS4G-Asia event, it was decided unanimously that FOSS4G-Asia will be held as a biennial event (every two years) counting from last FOSS4G-Asia. During the FOSS4G-Asia 2018 selection process, it was also decided that the future FOSS4G-Asia events will be organized between the November and December period. The choice for the host is entrusted to a selection committee comprising of past event organizers and persons involved in actively FOSS4G in Asia. The next FOSS4G-Asia conference in 2026.
We now invite proposals for hosting the FOSS4G-Asia 2026 conference.

- Dates (Anytime from early January 2026 to early February 2026), including schedule for training workshops and technical sessions. FOSS4G-Asia is normally of 3 and half days duration including 1 day for training workshops and 2 days for Keynote talks and Technical sessions. And concludes with an half a day long Code-Sprint Session.
- Tentative Theme of the Conference
- Members of Local Organizing Committee
- Main organizers and possible list of supporting organizations
- Potential sponsors, partners and co-organizers
- Venue
- Transportation and access to the venue
- Tentative list of potential Keynote speakers
- Plan for mode of conducting the conference? (Online/Offline/Hybrid)
- Infrastructure available (Meeting rooms available with capacity, Internet Access, lecture rooms for workshops etc.)
- Plans for bringing our peer-reviewed Conference Proceedings or other academic publications
- Information on planned Conference Registration Fee, Student Discount, etc.
- What are the Eco-friendly measures you plan to introduce in organizing the event?
- Availability of hotel rooms near the venue and an approximate cost for single or shared rooms
- Any other information that will help the Selection committee to arrive at a decision.
PROPOSAL PHASE
The deadline for submission of proposals is 26th January 2025 (Sunday).
Q PHASE
The bidding teams are required to respond to questions related to their bids and to submit their answers by 3rd February 2025 (Monday). AoE Time Zone.
VOTING AND DECISION PHASE
The selection committee will vote from 5th – 12th February 2025, and decide the host for FOSS4G-Asia 2026. The host selection will be announced on 14th February 2025.

IMPORTANT NOTE
The hosting and archival arrangements for the FOSS4G-Asia 2026 conference emphasize long-term continuity and resource allocation. Key details include:
- Conference Website and Archival Platform:
- The website and contents for FOSS4G-Asia 2026 will be hosted on the Conference Management Platform (CMP) managed by AGILE (Association of Geoinformatics Laboratories for Earthsciences).
- This platform ensures the preservation and accessibility of conference materials.
- CMP Fee and Financial Responsibility:
- The CMP hosting cost for the period from 01/01/2024 to 31/12/2025 is covered by the FOSS4G-Asia 2024 host.
- The 2026 host organization is required to bear the CMP fee for the subsequent two-year period (01/01/2026 to 31/12/2028).
- The hosting organizations must allocate a specific budget for this purpose.
- Additional Budgetary Expectations:
- In addition to covering CMP fees, the host organization must also set aside funds to support the travel expenses of 4-5 invited/keynote speakers.
These provisions ensure the smooth functioning of the conference and the sustainability of its outcomes over the long term.
