Markus Neteler is a physical geographer, co-founder, and senior consultant at mundialis, a geospatial analysis and remote sensing company based in Bonn, Germany (https://www.mundialis.de/). Prior to founding mundialis, Markus Neteler spent 15 years as a scientist in research institutions in Trento, Italy, focusing on health, biodiversity, GIS, and earth observation. During this period, Markus Neteler served as a task leader for several EU projects and managed both national and international projects.
Since 2015, Markus Neteler has concentrated on analyzing earth observation data, large geospatial datasets, and developing free and open-source GIS software at mundialis. In addition to strategic business development, Markus Neteler is mainly involved in building Earth Observation and Cloud Computing initiatives, such as actinia (https://actinia.mundialis.de/). Alongside EU research projects, mundialis also works with clients such as Deutsche Telekom, ESA, and WHO. Markus Neteler is a core developer of GRASS GIS and has coordinated its development for over two decades.
In 2024, Markus Neteler also co-founded ESMERALDA SAS (https://esmeralda.earth/), a French company focused on planning and monitoring large-scale land degradation neutrality projects.
