This year’s FOSS4G-Asia conference will feature a dedicated full-day Academic Track. This track is aimed at fostering the exchange of ideas and collaborative opportunities between the geospatial academic community and practitioners in Geospatial technologies. We are inviting submissions that present empirical, methodological, conceptual, or literature review-based research that utilizes or evaluates FOSS4G tools and technologies for Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

1. 1. Geospatial Data Science Applications:

• • • Environmental monitoring and impact assessment.
    • Urban modeling and geospatial simulations for city planning.
    • Enhancements in agriculture through precision farming and smart agriculture techniques.
    • Health geographics: Using geospatial data to improve community health and well-being.
    • Natural resource management to better understand climate change situation

1. 2. Advancements in Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI):

• • • Case studies on the development and impact of SDIs.
    • Cross-border data sharing and policy frameworks supporting SDI initiatives.
    • Integration of SDI with other data sources, including IoT, user-generated content, and authoritative datasets.

1. 3. IoT and Emerging Technologies in Geospatial Data:

• • • Integration challenges and solutions for merging IoT data streams with geospatial repositories.
    • Novel applications and innovations using IoT and AI.
    • Machine learning techniques for predictive analytics in geospatial contexts.

1. 4. Disaster Preparedness and Response Using Open Geospatial Tools:

• • • Real-time mapping and spatial analysis for disaster management.
    • Collaborative mapping initiatives for disaster preparedness, involving community participation and expert analysis.

Authors are encouraged to highlight the practical implications of their research on the broader FOSS4G community and potential impacts on policy, practice, and technology adoption. We welcome contributions that bridge gaps between theoretical research and practical applications, facilitating greater understanding and use of FOSS4G tools in diverse geospatial contexts.

Authors are invited to submit abstracts through the FOSS4G-Asia 2024 conference submission system.

Important Dates

• 15 July- Call for submissions
• 05 August – Last date for abstract submission
• 15 Aug – Abstract acceptance notification
• 15 September – Last date for full paper submission with revisions
• 15 October – Full paper acceptance notification
• 31 Oct – End of Early Bird

Abstract Requirements:

Length: Abstracts must be between 600 and 1200 words. This limit will be strictly enforced to ensure a fair and balanced review process.

Content Structure: Abstracts must be scientifically rigorous, and the content should be logically structured as follows (without the need to include subsections):

• Introduction/Background: Clearly introduce the problem addressed.
• Main Aim/Purpose: State the main aim or purpose of the study.
• Methodology and Findings: Provide a brief description of the methodology used and summarize the key findings achieved.
• Discussion: Highlight the scientific contribution of the study and its practical benefits or implications. This part should reflect on how the findings can impact the field and possibly influence practical applications.

Evaluation Criteria:

The scientific committee will place a strong emphasis on the reproducibility of the research. Reproducibility is achieved when all research artifacts (input data, computational steps, methods, and code) are made openly available to ensure consistent results. When applicable, any shared code must be released under an open-source license.

*Abstracts must be submitted online in plain-text format, without images or figures.*

Presentation and Publication:

Authors of accepted abstracts in Academic and Poster Tracks will be invited to submit a full paper manuscripts.  Selected manuscripts (about 15 manuscripts) will be published in special issue in the International Journal of Geoinformatics (IJG) and the rest will be published in the “FOSS4G-Asia e-Proceedings”. Both “IJG FOSS4G-Asia 2024 Special Issue” and “FOSS4G-Asia e-Proceedings” manuscripts will undergo peer-review before final publication.

Authors of selected full paper article will be invited to deliver an oral Academic Track or Poster presentation at the conference.

Submissions selected to be published “IJG FOSS4G-Asia 2024 Special Issue” have to complete their registration and payment for the “Academic Track” registration fees (12,500 THB) by Oct 31, 2024.
